My new obsession

So, my new favorite channel is BBC America. I have always watched the channel for Footballers Wives and Cash in the Attic, but now, I have a full-blown obsession: Robin Hood. About 2 months ago, I started seeing the previews for the show….and was slightly intrigued…then I watched the first two episodes…and thought that it was ok. I should have stopped there. As the weeks went on, I found myself becoming giddy from this campy television series. So much, in fact, that I began to download the whole series (season one has already aired in the UK). I have now watched all the episodes….at least twice. I am a full-blown addict. The series is directed/written by Dominic Minghella…brother of Anthony who brought us The English Patient and Cold Mountain (can you guess why I am a fan?). I will admit, the show is quite cheesy…I think the guy playing Robin could use 20 more lbs of muscle….but I love the Sherrif…I love Marian….I LOVE Guy of Gisborne. The action is pretty well done…but it is purely an entertainment-based show. They have taken a lot of liberties with the fable…but I don’t care. I am obsessed. I will wallow in that for a while.

FYI — if you want to watch the shows and don’t get BBC America, go to this website and search for Robin Hood….they have most of the eps. Yay! I cannot wait for season 2!

D and X

So….the Partial Birth Abortion Ban was upheld yesterday by the Court system, in a 5-4 decision. The lone female that sits on the highest bench in the land, who also disagreed, had this to say:

In a bitter dissent read from the bench, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the only woman on the high court, said the majority’s opinion “cannot be understood as anything other than an effort to chip away a right declared again and again by this court, and with increasing comprehension of its centrality to women’s lives.”

She called the ruling “alarming” and noted the conservative majority “tolerates, indeed applauds, federal intervention to ban nationwide a procedure found necessary and proper in certain cases” by doctor’s groups, including gyncecologists. - CNN

While I was utterly dismayed by this ruling, it didn’t become more clear to me than when I read this article. Here is my most memorable excerpt:

Women of all kinds seek and have always sought abortion: married, single, in their twenties, thirties, and forties, teenagers. Some have no children, some have several already. Some never want children, some want children later. They are churchgoers, atheists, agnostics. They are morally upright pillars of the community, they are prostitutes. They’re promiscuous, they’re monogamous, they’re recent virgins. They get pregnant under all kinds of circumstances: consensual sex, nonconsensual sex, sex that falls somewhere between consensual and nonconsensual. Some are drunk or using drugs, some never even touch an aspirin. Some use no birth control, some use birth control that fails.

It reminds me that abortion is not a “class” issue…it isn’t an education issue….it isn’t a madonna/whore issue….it is a woman’s issue…and that affects everyone. I am fearful that this is the beginning of going back…back to the motel room corpse-ridden floors, the scared alleyways, the lack of choice in what you do with your own body. Let’s hope not.

J-J-J-Job

So, I have the new job…and I am pretty excited about it. Small company…and I get to do ALL of the HR. I will love it!

In other news….I am dreaming way too much lately. Well, perhaps not ‘too’ much…but I am remembering more than I have in a very long time! They are freaking me out quite a bit. Oh well, I will muster on.

I went to Rocky Point this weekend….and I found DRUG central. It was pretty scary when the man opens his shoebox and shows drugs that I haven’t ever seen and some that I was sure were VERY bad. It was a hoot, though, seeing this.

Ta ta!

The Process…again…this time in slow-motion

OK, so I had a huge political rant…but that is going to wait until I finish season 7 of the West Wing for the 10th time…so I can be somewhat optimistic before I spill my rant upon this blog. So, instead, I am going to rant about a few random things that need to be ranted upon. Handle it, peeps.

My Center closed down after the WARN communication….I am saddened. I loved my job…but the vagabond nature in me is a little excited now. But mostly, I am just sad. Sigh.

Since said closure happened, I have been forced upon the streets to pound the pavement with cries of, “Will work for 401(k)” and “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Profit Sharing.” I have a few that I really like….and some that I have turned down because it would be like the “olden” days. None of us want that, even if the stories would be hysterical.

I like a boy…nothing more will be discussed on this forumn….but I do like him. I must stop before my girlie nature takes over the world.

Drag Queens really like sequins….too much fun.

I am exhausted and need to go lie on the beach for a few months. I am settling for a few days. Pina Coladas, Stephen L. Carter, and me.

That little boy running to his Dad’s arms on CNN makes me cry for ten minutes at a time.

I really despise laundry.

I am WAY too in to Arcade Fire.

Everyone, including your Mom, is pregnant….Instead of tithing I will be buying stock in Babies R Us. This upsets me greatly.

Newt Gingrich is an asshole.

Harry Potter comes out (both movie and book) in just a few short months.

Sometimes I wish my name was Molly….no reason…I just like it.

Some bitch stole the name of my non-existent female child…..she is so in the bag.

New Belgium’s ‘2 Below’ is gaining on the “Title of Erin’s favorite Beer.”

I would have been a great movie critic.

I don’t really like soft tacos.

OK, that is all for now.
